We worked with a major healthcare provider in Melbourne, Victoria. It has three major hospital campuses in Prahran, Caulfield and Sandringham and provides outpatient and accommodation services. Sub-Acute services are provided primarily from the Caulfield campus. Acute Mental Health services and Information Communications Technology (ICT) are located at the main Hospital in Prahran.
Terra Firma was commissioned to develop a four-year ICT Strategy for the Sub-Acute and Mental Health Services of Bayside Health. The development and alignment of the ICT strategy was considered a business imperative by the client and it coincided with a complete redesign of all buildings and medical facilities as part of a major capital works program. The scope of the strategy included:
• Software systems and applications
• User hardware and electronic devices
• Infrastructure (networks and equipment)
• Communication and telephony devices
• User capability including skills, training and change management.
Terra Firma produced a comprehensive strategy that provided a clear analysis and recommendations which were enthusiastically adopted. Terra Firma distilled a complex set of regulatory, technical and business drivers and requirements into a set of 30 recommendations, each with a one-page project brief.
These briefs, and an accompanying proposed implementation schedule and benefit realisation roadmap, provided clear direction on how to realise the strategy. It was this pragmatic approach of linking each recommendation to business goals and ‘bringing people along for the journey’ via facilitated workshops, that left a sense of excitement and anticipation within the client’s boardroom and in the broader clinical community.
Terra Firma’s success was predicated on communicating a vision beyond the linkages between analysis and project management to create a compelling and achievable vision for technology, processes and people. Terra Firma created a view of ‘what could be’, ‘what should be’ and ‘how to get there’.
