“I really enjoy the people at Terra Firma and the way we work together on both client engagements and on our company initiatives”

When and why did you join Terra Firma?

I joined Terra Firma in September 2014. I’d been working as an independent contractor for many years and loved project life, but I wanted a ‘home’ base in an organisation I felt connected to whilst out on client engagements. Terra Firma offered me that from day one and I value and appreciate the backup and support I get when I’m out at a client site, and I know that this support is literally only a phone call away.

What do you love about your job?

I work in the change management space and this is sometimes seen as a ‘nice to have’ or the ‘soft and fluffy’ side of the project which in reality couldn’t be further from the truth. I love that my job is all about people and making sure that whatever a project is doing, the people not only know about it, but they feel ready and able to deal with it and that there are not any surprise packages along the way. In my eyes, an organisation is what it is because of the people who work in it and when you’re changing their world, they are the ones you need to have with you all the way for the initiative to be a success.

As well as working on client engagements, I’m a team leader for eight consultants out at other sites. My job is to support them in whatever way needed and sometimes, this is just a meet up in a café to talk about what’s going on and at other times, it’s a conversation about the direction they want to take their career. It’s a part of my job that I’m naturally good at, and that I love.

What are you looking forward to in your career at Terra Firma?

You just never know where you’re going to go next on an engagement or what you’ll be doing, and I really enjoy that aspect of what I do. I’ve had opportunities to work on engagements that I possibly wouldn’t have had as a contractor. I’ve always said to management, place me where I’m needed and that’s where I’ll go.
